Retinol vs. glycolic acid

Glycolic acid works on the surface: rough texture and a dull look. Retinol works on a longer timeline: the look of fine lines and firmness. Both belong in the evening, and while you are starting out, never on the same night.

What glycolic acid does

Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid. It helps loosen dull surface cells so skin feels smoother and looks more even. Because it works at the surface, the change in feel tends to come sooner. The Glycolic Acid Serum pairs it with bilberry fruit extract and aloe leaf extract. Use 2–3 drops in the evening.

What retinol does

Retinol is a form of vitamin A, widely used to support the look of smoother skin, softer fine lines and firmer-looking skin over months of use. Skin often needs an adjustment period with some dryness. The Collagen & Retinol Serum combines retinol with phospholipids, hydrolyzed collagen, sodium hyaluronate and sodium PCA to help skin stay comfortable during that phase.

Which one to choose

If skin feels rough or bumpy, or looks dull, start with glycolic acid. If fine lines and firmness are your main concern, start with retinol. If both apply, begin with one for a few weeks, then introduce the other on separate nights. Sensitive skin does well with one active at a time. If you are pregnant, ask your doctor before using retinol.

How to alternate

A simple start: glycolic acid one night, retinol two nights later, rest nights in between with only hydration and moisturizer. Over weeks, add nights if skin stays calm. Keep the two on separate nights while starting. If skin turns red, tight or stings, return to rest nights until it settles. SPF every morning applies to both.

Questions

Common questions.

Can I use retinol and glycolic acid on the same night?

Not when you are starting out. Both can cause dryness and sensitivity, and combining them early raises the chance of irritation. Use them on separate nights with rest nights between. Even once your skin is used to both, separate nights remain the simpler, calmer schedule.

Should I start with retinol or glycolic acid?

Start with the one that matches your main concern. Glycolic acid fits rough texture and dullness. Retinol fits fine lines and loss of firmness. Introducing one first for a few weeks makes it easier to see how your skin responds before adding the second.

Can you use retinol and glycolic acid with sensitive skin?

Often yes, with a slower pace. Start with one active, one or two nights a week, and keep the rest of the routine simple and fragrance-free. Hydrate on rest nights. If skin stays red or stings, pause and consider using only one of the two.
